Dimensions

What is the mission of Gardner-Webb University?

Gardner-Webb, a private, Christian, Baptist-related university,

provides superior undergraduate and graduate education strongly grounded in the liberal arts. By fostering meaningful intellectual

thought, critical analysis and spiritual challenge within a diverse community of learning, Gardner-Webb prepares its graduates to make significant contributions for God and humanity in an ever-changing global community. This statement indicates that Gardner-Webb seeks to nurture persons from the perspective of a Christian world view.

What is the purpose of Dimensions?

The purpose of Dimensions is to enhance the spiritual, intellectual and cultural life of the University and to promote a sense of community. Consequently, the three primary objectives of the Dimensions program are: (1) to provide opportunities for spiritual growth through worship

and programs of a religious nature, all in the context of Gardner-Webb University's strong commitment to the Christian faith; (2) to enhance the academic program of the University by providing opportunities for intellectual and cultural enrichment; and (3) to promote a sense of community by regularly bringing together students, faculty, staff and friends of the University.

How do I experience Dimensions at Gardner-Webb?

Each student is required to register for Dimensions each semester of

full-time enrollment at Gardner-Webb University or until a minimum of three semester hours (six semesters) has been earned. Part-time

students must earn 1/2 semester hour of credit for every 15 hours of credit earned at Gardner-Webb or until a minimum of three semester hours (six semesters) has been earned. Dimensions programs are held

on Tuesdays at 9:25 a.m. in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center (LYCC) unless otherwise noted.

How many Dimensions programs do I need to attend per semester?

Students must attend at least 10 programs per semester to receive credit. Students who leave Dimensions prior to the conclusion of the program will be charged with academic dishonesty. Students found guilty of academic dishonesty will receive an F in dimensions for the semester.

Can I get Dimensions credit for attending other events at

Gardner-Webb University?

The University encourages students to attend worship services, academic activities, athletic events and other programs within

campus organizations and outside the University. A listing will

be made available to you if credit will be given for other events.

Who can tell me how many Dimensions programs I have

attended each semester?

Students are responsible for knowing the number of Dimensions programs they have attended. Instructions on checking your attendance are included on the back of this program. A master record is maintained

in the Office of Campus Ministries. Students wishing to challenge their attendance record must do so within 30 days after the posting of final

grades.

Can I graduate from Gardner-Webb University without having fulfilled the number of Dimensions credits required of me?

Satisfactory attendance is a graduation requirement. The University

does not grant degrees to students who fail to earn 3 semester hours of credit. Any exemption from Dimensions is determined by the Provost.

What happens if I fail Dimensions?

Students receiving an F in Dimensions must repeat the course the following semester. Failure to receive a passing grade during the

semester that the course is repeated will result in the student being

placed on dimensions probation until the Dimensions requirement has been fulfilled. Students who fail Dimensions three semesters will be suspended from the University. In order to be reinstated, the student must register for and satisfactorily complete a Dimensions experience during the summer term.

Is there anything else I should know about attendance at

Dimensions programs?

Students must use their ID cards to receive credit for Dimensions programs. Credit for attendance will not be given without an ID. Students will have two weeks after the beginning of school to correct any problems with their ID cards. After that, no one will receive credit without having their card scanned. Students who scan an ID card other than their own

will be charged with academic dishonesty. Students who arrive at a Dimensions program after 9:30 a.m. will not receive credit for that

program. Due to fire regulations, students may not sit in the stairwells

of the LYCC or the Dover Theater.

Speakers should be treated with the utmost respect and courtesy.

Appropriate dress and behavior are expected. The use of

cell phones and laptop computers is not permitted. Faculty and

staff members will ask persons exhibiting inappropriate behavior

to leave. These persons will not receive credit for attendance.
